Interest segmentation

Push notification segmentation by interest

Tag every campaign with the topics it is about. SharePush watches what each subscriber clicks and gives them a 0 to 100 interest score per topic, so the next push goes to the readers who care about it.

Sending everything to everyone is how sites get blocked

A football fan does not want the markets update, and a markets reader does not want the transfer news. Send both to both, and each of them gets one push too many.

Chrome now watches how readers react to a site's notifications, and quiets or blocks the sites they ignore. Targeting by interest is how you send more without being one of them.

How interest segmentation works

  1. 1

Tag campaigns with your own topics

Pick topics like Football, Markets or Recipes when you write a campaign. RSS posts take their feed's topics automatically.

  2. 2

Clicks build a score per topic

Every click adds to the subscriber's interest in the topics of that campaign. The score is their share of interest in each topic, from 0 to 100.

  3. 3

    Target by threshold

Send to everyone who follows a topic, or only to readers above a score, for example Football at 60 or more.

What you get

  • Your own topic vocabulary

Topics are yours to name and merge. SharePush suggests the ones you already use as you type.

  • Scores from real behaviour

Interest comes from what a subscriber clicked, not from a form they filled in once.

  • Combine with other filters

Narrow by country, browser and operating system on top of topics and interest.

  • Audience size before you send

The composer shows how many subscribers a selection reaches before you press send.

  • A welcome for new subscribers

New subscribers have no history yet. A welcome series replays your best past campaigns to them, spaced out and capped.

  • Reports by topic

See which topics earn clicks across campaigns, and which readers follow them.

Segmentation, answered.

Each click credits the topics of that campaign. A subscriber's score in a topic is the share of their clicks that went to it, from 0 to 100, so it shows how much of their interest the topic takes.

From their first click. Until then they receive campaigns sent without an interest threshold, and the welcome series gives them something to click.

Yes. Topics and thresholds are optional on every campaign. Leave them empty and the campaign reaches the whole site.

No. Plans are priced by active subscribers, not by sends, so sending to a smaller audience costs the same and earns better click rates.
